Vietnam
Few countries pack as much into one journey as Vietnam. Culture, history, extraordinary food, dramatic landscapes, beautiful beaches and some of the warmest people you will ever meet – all strung along a country that rewards exploration from top to bottom.
This is a destination that has been on everyone’s radar for years – and it keeps delivering. Whether you are drawn by the ancient temples and street food of the north, the lantern-lit charm of Hoi An, the energy of Saigon or the quiet magic of the Mekong Delta, Vietnam has a way of exceeding expectations at every turn.
Beaver Travel’s Gina shared her own experiences of an extraordinary journey through Vietnam and Cambodia.
Hanoi

Vietnam’s capital is a city of lakes, tree-lined boulevards and centuries of layered history. The Old Quarter is a wonderful maze of streets, each historically dedicated to a different trade, and the food scene – from streetside pho to proper sit-down restaurants – is exceptional. Don’t miss a night out in the city, including the famous Train Street and Hoan Kiem Lake at dusk.
Ninh Binh

Often called Halong Bay on land, Ninh Binh is having its moment – and rightly so. Dramatic limestone karsts rise from rice paddies and rivers, and a boat trip through the Trang An gorges is one of those quietly unforgettable experiences. A little further from the tourist trail and all the better for it.
Hoi An

Hoi An is one of Southeast Asia’s most loved towns – and it deserves every bit of the attention. The ancient trading port’s old town glows with lanterns at night, the tailors are extraordinary, the beach is beautiful and the cookery schools are among the best in Vietnam. Allow more time here than you think you need.
Ho Chi Minh City
Still known to most locals as Saigon, this is one of Asia’s great cities – energetic, chaotic, fascinating and surprisingly easy to fall in love with. The French colonial architecture sits alongside gleaming skyscrapers, the street food is world class and the Cu Chi Tunnels offer one of the most affecting historical experiences in all of Vietnam.
The Mekong Delta

Getting off the beaten track into the Delta is one of the great rewards of a Vietnam trip. Rice paddies, floating markets, coconut groves and a pace of life that feels completely removed from the cities. Stay overnight rather than day-tripping – it makes all the difference.
Halong Bay and beyond

The limestone karsts of Halong Bay are as spectacular as the photographs suggest – and a luxury cruise through the bay, with time to kayak, swim and explore hidden caves, is the perfect way to experience them. Lan Ha Bay nearby is equally beautiful with fewer crowds. This is one part of Vietnam where spending a little more makes a significant difference to the experience.
Experiences not to miss

Vietnam rewards those who go beyond the sights. A Vespa food tour through the streets of Hanoi or Saigon is an absolute must – there is no better way to experience the energy and flavour of these cities. Beaver Travel’s Sally knows exactly what we mean – she has done it and loved every minute.
A cookery class in Hoi An. A sunrise at Ninh Binh. A night cruise on Halong Bay. These are the moments that make a Vietnam trip truly memorable.
